How do you estimate your tennis rating? ›

To calculate your rating - Find the difference in the league points earned between you and your opponent for each vaild match. Sum the point difference and divide by the total number of vaild matches. This is the number you see in the rating column on your standings page.

3.5. Intermediate Player: Has achieved improved stroke dependability with directional control on moderate shots, but still lacks depth and variety. Starting to exhibit more aggressive net play and has improved court coverage.

How is the UTR Rating calculated? For each match, the algorithm calculates a match rating and a match weight for each player. A player's UTR Rating is the weighted average of up to 30 of their most recent match ratings. Only matches within the last 12 months count toward a player's UTR Rating.

A person with a 5.0 tennis rating has learned good shot anticipation and can consistently hit different strokes with depth and control.

4.0 This player has dependable strokes, including directional intent, on both forehand and backhand sides on moderate shots, plus the ability to use lobs, overheads, approach shots and volleys with some success. This player occasionally forces errors when serving and teamwork in doubles is evident.

As the difference in UTR Rating increases, so does the likelihood the higher-rated player wins the match easily. Our data indicates matches with a UTR Rating difference of more than 2.00 are almost certain to be a blowout.

Compete well and try to win as many games as possible; this is the best way to improve your UTR. Play Often – The more matches you play, the quicker your UTR will reflect your current form. It is also best to play against opponents who are close to your rating regardless of whether they are above or below you.

6.0 to 7.0. The 6.0-player typically has had intensive training for national tournament competition at the junior and collegiate levels and has obtained a sectional and/or national ranking. The 7.0-player is a world class player.

At the top of the rating spectrum, a 6.0 player typically has had intensive training. They have likely played international tournaments or top-level collegiate competitions and have obtained a national ranking. The 6.5 and 7.0 are world-class players. Does USTA count towards UTR? ›

VERIFIED UTR VS UTR – UTR counts all results, including matches played in verified tournaments/events and non-verified matches. Verified UTR counts match results played in only verified tournaments and events. For example, USTA league/tournament matches count toward Verified UTR and UTR.

UNIVERSAL 9 AND 10: Upper level female collegiate player…

These players are among the best players in an area. Junior players at these levels are highly likely to play U.S. Collegiate Division 1 NCAA tennis. Junior girls will be among the top players nationally.

Both the ATP and WTA count a player's best results from the last 52 weeks. The ATP counts a player's points collected from the 19 best results during that 12 month time frame, and the WTA counts the points earned at a maximum of 16 of the best results for singles and 11 for doubles.

Guidelines to rate yourself:

Start reading from the top of the chart, beginning with Level 1.0. Find the level that best describes your general level of play. Ask your Instructor or Coach to validate your self-rating, if you think that will help. Remember that as you play more, and improve, your rating may improve.
