I have been reflecting on my path while navigating through challenges in my workplace. This could not have come at a better time. The issue with being around those that bring you down or break you down, is that you don’t have the energy to bring yourself or your coworkers back UP.

This is so true! Leaders do not need to be your “friend”, but they can be FRIENDLY. Taking an interest in your staff does not make you vulnerable, instead, it helps you build a team that will work harder for you and will back you up. I have seen too often leaders take their power and use it to control their environment. Instead, if this is your leadership, you may want to consider the idea that they are not confident in their own skills. Empowering others is the path to true leadership.

I have have very poor luck when it comes to managers and supervisors until now. It is imperative that, as a Leader, you understand yourself and realize how you work with others. I am so fortunate to have a boss that actually appreciates my efforts! Promotes growth and development instead of cutting me down due to unrealistic or consistent expectations.

Who is your role model? Are they someone you need to like you so you can be part of the gang? Do your coworkers need to be your “friend” in order for you to feel valued in the work place? Or, are you confident enough in your skills and work ethic that you can stand on your own and work “with” your coworkers, and not “for” them?We all have our own agendas, does yours match the goals and mission of the company, or does it only match your needs? These are questions I have been forced to face over the past year. For me, my work life needs to be congruent with my personal life. I have found that it is extremely unhealthy to live an incongruent life. This of course, is different for all of us. Look at yourself, your values, ethics and agenda. Do you work with others of similar values? Do you walk the walk?

This is so true, and on so many levels. I recently heard a provider say something like, “when you have an employee with fire inside them, use that fire, don’t put it out”. Embrace your “fire” and do not let those around you put it out. Harness that energy and use it to help you move forward, not back, and know in all of your being, that you have so much to offer. Blaze on!!!
