The Dental Admission Test (DAT) is a challenging exam that requires thorough preparation. While it may not be easy, with proper dedication and study, it is certainly achievable.

Students must master a wide range of skills, from diagnosing oral diseases to performing complex dental procedures. In addition to technical skills, they must also develop strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues.

Sometimes an especially bold practice owner will tell us that they never miss a phone call. We hate to be a cold shower on a Monday morning. But the truth is that the average dental practice misses roughly 35 percent of all new patient phone calls. This isn't because of a lack of effort.

The dentist's scoring between 0 to 4 indicates zero being the best you can get meaning your gums are in excellent condition, and four indicate gum disease. The numbers you hear your dentist calling are the depths of the pockets around the teeth in millimeters. Smaller, tighter pockets usually mean healthier gums.

While it's possible to study well for the DAT in 2 months, most people find they need at least 3.

While the section scores on the DAT average 17, it is important to note that the Academic Average score required for admittance into most dental schools is 19.

However, the curriculum for medicine is generally more intense, with more hours spent in the classroom and clinical rotations. In contrast, dental students often have more flexible schedules and less time in class. Based on the curriculum alone, you can consider medicine the tougher educational path.

Being what it is, the ORE is not that easy to pass. In fact, the official figures state that the passing rate of part 1 is between 57% and 78% while the part 2 has a pass rate of 25% to 67%. However, that are still a lot of dentists that make it through.

Whether an applicant gets an interview invitation is subject to the holistic admissions process. But if you're wondering what makes a good DAT score, you should aim for the 70-80th percentiles, meaning 20-21.

The Perceptual Ability section of the DAT is often cited as one of the most challenging sections of the test by pre-dental students. However, unlike other sections that require an enormous amount of memorization, succeeding on perceptual ability questions ultimately comes down to practice.

In an oral exam it's more like one fleeting shot to impress. “You have to think on your feet. You have to synthesize. You have to be succinct and you don't have the opportunity to write something, look at it, go back and fix it, twiddle with it here and there,” she says.

The average score for acceptance is around 20 AA.

This is just an average though, a quick look at the ADEA Guide to Dental Schools shows that students get accepted with lower scores as well! A good score is 20 AA and should be most students' goal. Scores of 23+ AA are rare and exceptionally competitive.
