READ 180 This year we will be using READ 180 Next Generation for our English Language Arts Curriculum. This program is researched based and meets the Common Core State Standards. It is an excellent tool in providing differentiated instruction and meeting the various needs of students in reading and writing. It is motivating for students as many parts of the program are computer based and stories are interesting and exciting. READ 180 has several parts: whole group instruction, small group differentiated instruction and individualized support. Whole group instruction is on grade level and challenges students to push themselves and grow as readers and writers. Small group lessons allow the teacher to further meet the needs of students. Individual reinforcement is provided via the computer. Each student learns at their own pace and at their own level and moves through the program as they master and become fluent with various skills. There is also a strong in class/homework component called modeled and independent reading. Your child will be required to read several books at their reading level and complete various comprehension activities at their own pace throughout the school year. You can learn more about this program at: http://read180.scholastic.com/reading-intervention-program.Please note that this program is different from what classroom teachers are using. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. DON'T FORGET TO CHECK OUT THE SPELLING A...
