What is the Reckli pattern? ›

RECKLI SELECT is a collection of versatile concrete textures from natural to imaginary. More than 250 designs bring stone, rock, brickwork, wood, plaster, oriental, abstract and non-slip patterns as well as ribbed or wave textures and broken effects to any façade.

Engrave designs into the surface.

The process scores straight lines, rectangles and even circular patterns into the concrete using a machine about the size of a lawn mower with a sharp diamond blade. Engraving machines are commonly used to cut brick, tile and cobblestone patterns, but just about any motif is possible.

Precast concrete is made by pouring concrete into a mould in a factory or plant, instead of directly pouring it at the construction site. The cured concrete product is then transported to the construction site and installed as a finished material. However, there are several different types of precast concrete.

The Benefits of Concrete Overlays

One of the main benefits of using a concrete overlay is its cost-effectiveness. A thin layer of overlay can be applied instead of tearing out and replacing an entire concrete surface, saving time and money.

This fairly simple method requires contractors to lay down chalk outlines of the pattern on dried concrete. Then, using a circular saw, the pattern is scored into the concrete.

For best results, choose an exterior paint designed for concrete surfaces and includes primer in the formula. Check the weather before you begin to ensure the paint will have ample time to dry. Let the base color dry completely before stenciling.

A typical concrete batch, by volume, contains roughly 10% cement, 20% water and air, 30% sand, and 40% gravel (see Figure 1). The exact proportions vary up or down a little, but 10-20-30-40 is a good rule of thumb.

The safest bet for any concrete mix is four-two-one: four parts crushed rock; two parts sand; and one part cement. The four-two-one mix, obviously, has seven parts. Conveniently, when mixing concrete, the ratio can be mixed on any range of scales.
