Shōgun: Limited Series | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Daniel Fienberg Hollywood Reporter Shogun had “prestige” written all over it. Yet the care taken by creators Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo to deliver this story without having it reek of appropriation and voyeurism was evident throughout. Jun 6, 2024 Full Review Shōgun: Limited Series | Rotten Tomatoes (2) Ed Power Daily Telegraph (UK) Shōgun hasn’t been perfect. When it was slow, it was practically stationary. But the moving finale more than paid off all the time and patience demanded of its audience. David S Thoroughly enjoyed this show. Cinematically it looks great, the script is engaging and extremely well acted. It's not fast moving, but is meticulous and the pacing is well crafted with a steady build towards the themes it covers. Character development is well managed with each having their own journey that remains solid throughout the series. It's a great example of how a limited episodic show should work. It feels like a passion project with each shot and scene lifting from the screen more like a piece of art than just a TV show. The writing is thoughtful, with some fantastic dialogue and it's a same that this type of writing has so far on the whole been unable to make it over to many other current day shows - Star Wars I'm looking at you!I definitely recommend this one. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/17/24 Full Review Gabriel R It's not a romance story; this is art! Shōgun is one of the best TV series ever made about the history of Japan. The episodes are rich with connections that showcase culture, the honor among warriors, traditions, and realism. After watching this series, I started reading the book and blogs related to the subject. Must see Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/17/24 Full Review Avi F Visually compelling and quite interesting glimpse of Japan in the 1600s. It's not perfect, but I watched it throughout the whole thing, which is something I can't say about too many TV shows these days.
